Burgos

What is there to say... Well, today is my second visit to Burgos and what a day it was. It started early this morning at atapuerca and ended late morning at the cathedral of opulence and excess.. I mean the Burgos cathedral.  Don't misunderstand, it is an architectural wonder both inside and out. Very well done and expanded upon in excess over the centuries. Inside the individual chapels dedicated to the very highest bishops and Cardinals who "ruled" over Burgos from their cathedral Palace. 10 years ago I took the museum tour, 10 years ago. I left utterly disgusted. This year, no tour please - Thank you very much

Burgos as a town is just a wonderful place full of awesome architectural wonders. We spent the morning and the early afternoon wandering around viewing the various sites.

As we were passing through the plaza which is right around the corner from where we're staying, we got to witness them setting up a stage for one of their many, many parties. Parties. You can see from the picture below that they are expecting a significant amount of beer consumption over the course of this event

And yes, that is what you think it is, I have a shipping container full of beer on top of what is outside already. Honestly, I am starting to lose track of all the the cities, towns and even hamlets that having parties that we have seen either getting set up, actively going on, or just wrapping up.

Tonight can we get it early visit through the town and in early bed. Tomorrow morning? We hope to be up early and making time to our our hopeful next stage while the weather is still cool.

So I'm going to take just a few minutes to talk about the actual walking of the Camino., the trail never stays the same and very quite widely over the course of one day. This morning for example we had a sidewalk walk out of town but then turned left and climbed a little fun road which quickly turned into just foot ruts in the ground which when we got to the summit which was just loose rock and the only way you and knew you were on the path is there was no grass. At the summit, I took a moment to look backwards and say goodbye to the past, turned forward and said hello to the Future.
Descended about halfway down until we got to a decision. Almost everybody made the choice to go to the left which brought you through a winding valley with a couple of hamlets Camino bars. We opted to run the ridge through an established farm road. Being careful to avoid the the well placed and very official looking diversion signs to bring us back down into the hamlets and spend money at their bars. Our Ridge run carried us many kilometers closer to Burgos and faster than the valley slog. We rejoin the primary Camino route long enough to cross the highway. After that, we took the second alternative way, which many books are now documenting. As the primary way, along the river and into Burgos. We wandered through a residential housing development, finally and, beside the runway, through Hamlet, through rough path, better path, paved path, and stone sidewalk.  When we were on the paved path and we saw a dirt footpath we opted for that instead of the pavement as it is much easier on the feet.
